I Say Ni Hao
I am sitting in San Francisco for the last few minutes before I depart, but before I leave I want to say “ni hao” (which means “hello” in Mandarin). No, I am not saying “tsai jien” (which means “good bye” in Mandarin). To paraphrase the Beatles, “I dont know why you say tsai jien, I say ni hao”. (One of their most underrated songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBZ8ulc5NTg)
I say ni hao to this new adventure.
I say ni hao to the changing relationships I will have with my friends and family here.
I say ni hao to the friendships and relationships I will build in Shanghai.
I say ni hao to all ups, downs, successes, failures, chest thumps, and bruises and bumps ahead.
I also say xie xie to everyone who has been such an important of my life, growth, and happiness here.
I love you all.
Next Stop Shanghai.
